Study on the implementation of active methodologies in higher education: benefits and challenges
Main Article Content
Abstract
A review of the literature on the implementation of active methodologies in higher education reveals that these pedagogical approaches, such as Problem-Based Learning, Collaborative Learning, and the flipped classroom, offer significant benefits, including improved academic performance and the development of crucial soft skills. These methodologies promote more dynamic and participatory learning, increasing student motivation and engagement by allowing them to apply knowledge in real contexts. However, their implementation faces several challenges, such as resistance to change on the part of teachers and students, lack of resources and adequate training, and the need for new forms of assessment that reflect the competencies developed. Adaptation to different disciplines and cultural contexts is also essential to maximize the effectiveness of these methodologies. Educational institutions must provide ongoing support to teachers and ensure adequate infrastructure to facilitate the effective adoption of these practices. Future research should focus on how to adapt active methodologies to diverse disciplines and contexts, and on the development of appropriate assessment tools. In other words, although active methodologies present challenges, their potential to transform higher education is significant, and with the right support, they can better prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century.
