Violated schools: socioeducational analysis of two cases in territorial key

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze violence in school settings as complex social phenomena that exceed the physical, symbolic, and operational boundaries of educational institutions. Based on a comparative study of two incidents in secondary schools in the Moreno district, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, the article explores the relationships among community, family, and school as structural factors shaping conflict scenarios. From a socio-educational and territorial perspective, it challenges the reduction of school violence to bullying, instead proposing categories such as institutional overflow and plurality of violences to interpret the tensions that affect schools as public spaces. It argues that schools are not the origin of these conflicts, but rather act as resonant spaces for social grievances that surpass their symbolic and operational capacities. This work seeks to contribute to a situated understanding of school conflict, incorporating reflections on the role of adults, punitive discourses, media exposure, and the need to strengthen collective strategies of care and coexistence.

Mariel Clara del Carmen-Ríos, Universidad Nacional de Moreno - Argentina

Mariel Ríos is an English teacher graduated from the Teacher Training Institute No. 21 “Dr. Ricardo Rojas” in Moreno, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. She is currently completing the final stage of her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education at the National University of Moreno (UNM), working on her final integrative project.

Her academic and professional path is rooted in educational institutions in the Moreno district, guided by an ethical, situated perspective committed to the transformation of public education. Her research focuses on school mediation in conflict situations among secondary school students, with special attention to strategies of care and democratic coexistence in vulnerable contexts.

 

She actively participates in ongoing teacher training programs, such as “Comprehensive Sex Education (ESI) as a Tool for the Prevention and Approach to Gender-Based Violence”, a course developed through collaboration between the Ministry of Women and Diversity of Buenos Aires Province and the General Directorate of Culture and Education. She is also enrolled in “School Violence and Overflows: Interventions in Conflicts and Critical Situations”, offered by FLACSO, which strengthens her interdisciplinary perspective and ethical commitment to addressing school conflict.

She collaborates on academic writing projects with Professor Pablo Mario Narvaja, director of the Center for Education Studies at UNM, aimed at publication in platforms such as Dialnet.

She is a History professor and a student of the Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education at the National University of Moreno (UNM). At the National University of Moreno (UNM), she is an assistant professor of Educational Research Methodology, part of the Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education.

As experience in academic organizations, the functions of Secretary of Teaching and Postgraduate Studies, and Director of the Institute of Education of the University of Salvador stand out; Dean Director of the Department of Productive and Technological Development, of the National University of Lanús; Director of the Education Science Course, Catholic University of Las Misiones, Director of the Center for Education Studies at the National University of Moreno. Professor of Educational Research Methodology, Educational Theory, Educational Epistemology. Guest Professor of the Faculty of Humanities of the National University of Rosario for the Doctorate in Humanities and the Doctorate in Education, Program for foreign students.

In the professional field, the functions of Permanent Secretary of the National Council of Education, Labor and Production of the Ministry of Education of the Argentine Republic are indicated; Undersecretary of Quality Evaluation, and Undersecretary of Educational Programming, Ministry of Education of the Argentine Republic.

At the international level, the role of Consultant of the FOAR Program for the governments of Guatemala and Panama is mentioned; General Coordinator of the Ibero-American Summit Program for Educational Quality (OEI); General Coordinator of the Ibero-American Summit Program for Educational Administration (OEI); Consultant for the NGO CEDALC, Medellín Colombia, on issues of linking education and regional development.
