Lean Manufacturing for waste elimination in SMEs: A systematic literature review

Abstract
Nowadays, several companies face the challenge of finding and applying new production methods that allow them to compete in a global market. Lean Manufacturing (LM) methodologies have become an option that adapts to different situations in the industry, providing an alternative to put an end to waste, optimizing processes and increasing profits, therefore, the objective of this research is determine the level of understanding and application of Lean principles in the elimination of waste through a systematic review of the literature on the possible adoption of these methodologies in small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs). Scopus, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Scielo, Redalyc, Dialnet and Dimensions were searched. Prospective and retrospective studies were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Twenty-five studies were meta-analyzed, which sought to answer the question: How does the design of lean production systems affect the management of moulting in SMEs? Concluding that a conceptualization framework of LM is fundamental for the management of active resources of small and medium-sized companies for its correct application. In addition, it focuses on significantly minimizing losses from manufacturing systems while maximizing value creation for the end customer.
