Learning by Doing in Ecuador: Promoting Practical Experience in Technical Education

Abstract

This article examines the role of learning by doing in technical education in Ecuador. The article highlights the importance of practical experience in building a skilled and competitive workforce through reviewing relevant literature and analyzing government policies and initiatives. The National Technical Education Plan, developed in 2011, emphasizes the need for partnerships between educational institutions and industry to provide students with relevant skills for the job market. Several vocational and technical schools in Ecuador offer programs in mechanics, electronics, welding, and computer science, often including internships or apprenticeships. The article concludes by discussing the potential benefits and challenges of learning by doing in Ecuador and highlighting the need for further research.

Mario Fabricio Ayala-Pazmiño, Universidad del Pacífico - Ecuador

Dr. Ayala has Computer Science, Business Administration, and Education Sciences degrees. He received his Ph.D. in Education from the University of Melbourne in Australia, in 2018, with his highest concentration in foreign language teaching and learning, pedagogy, educational management, and higher education. He is an educator and has experience as an Academic Coordinator. His previous experience includes working as head of Humanities and Community and Service departments. In addition, he was a professor at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, Universidad de las Americas in Quito, and Universidad de Guayaquil. Dr. Ayala is a Monash University Hispanic Studies Teachers Association, Australia member.

As an accomplished academic with over twenty years of experience in education, he holds a Doctor of Educational Sciences degree and a Bachelor of Education degree. He is a professor at UEES in the Faculty of Liberal Arts and the Master of Educational Management. He has also served as a Doctoral Thesis Tutor at the Universidad del Rosario, Argentina, and the University of Holguín, Cuba. 

 

He has extensive experience as a Teacher and Academic Coordinator at Delfines School and has participated in various national and international events. His expertise has resulted in over twenty publications in Indexed Magazines, such as Latindex and Scielo. 

  

To stay current with new developments in the field, he received over one hundred hours of education and pedagogy training in 2021 and 2022.
