Abstract

This article analyzes the tourism potential of gastronomy in the Rompeolas–Humboldt sector of the General Villamil Playas canton during the period 2024–2025. Through bibliographic research and academic sources, the main gastronomic resources of the area were identified, highlighting the culinary richness based on fresh seafood and traditional coastal recipes. The role of local establishments as promoters of authentic tourist experiences was also examined, with special attention given to seaside restaurants that have become landmarks for visitors. The study revealed that gastronomy is a key element in the cultural identity and diversification of the town's tourist offerings. Among the most relevant findings, the need to strengthen promotion strategies, staff training, and institutional coordination to position the destination as a benchmark for sustainable gastronomic tourism was highlighted. Finally, the integration of gastronomic routes and culinary festivals was proposed as effective mechanisms to boost local economic development based on the knowledge and flavors of the community.
