Analysis of tuberculosis as a nosocomial disease
Main Article Content
Abstract
Although TB is primarily a community-transmitted disease, its potential for transmission in hospital settings makes it a significant risk as a nosocomial disease. The present systematic literature review focuses on analyzing nosocomial tuberculosis transmission in healthcare settings, identifying factors that influence transmission risk, and assessing the effectiveness of infection control measures. PRISMA methodology was followed for the systematic review and studies published in English and Spanish in the last five years were included. A comprehensive search was conducted using databases such as Google Scholar, Scopus, Springerlink, Science Direct, PubMed, Medline, and Elsevier. Following the review, 200 articles were shortlisted, of which 62 were selected for their relevance. Most of the articles focused on field research and infection control. The results highlighted the vulnerability of healthcare workers, the frequency of tuberculosis outbreaks in hospitals, and the importance of comprehensive control strategies. Gaps in the implementation of tuberculosis control measures were identified and the need to investigate the impact of comorbidities such as HIV and COVID-19 on tuberculosis transmission and management was highlighted. In conclusion, the importance of implementing comprehensive strategies to reduce nosocomial transmission of tuberculosis and protect patients and healthcare workers is highlighted.
