The incorporation of ChatGPT in higher education: a look from the complexity paradigm

Abstract

In the field of higher education, thanks to artificial intelligence-based tools such as ChatGPT, potential benefits are emerging and at the same time challenges and ethical considerations arise.  


The objective for the article writing consisted in analyzing the incorporation of ChatGPT in higher education, taking as a case study the task of essay writing by students of the subject of Research Methodology of the Systems Engineering career of the Universidad Mayor de San Simón (Cochabamba - Bolivia), to complement with the reflections of the teacher's work, two questionnaires were applied, one directed to teachers and the other directed to students. Adopting the complexity paradigm applied to higher education, the incorporation of ChatGPT for essay writing was analyzed, distinguishing the characteristics of complexity: multidimensionality, autonomy and self-regulation, collaborative learning, ethics, and adaptability.
